'happy anniversary

Directed by Kevin Verdesoto

A man plans a special anniversary in attempts to regain a love lost.

"Happy Anniversary is a modern drama about a man, Joey Davis, who is in deep denial over the death of his wife. He relives their last anniversary every year just hoping that she comes back and ultimately realizes that she never will. This films message is to cherish the time you have with your loved ones because you don’t know when you’re going to lose them. Joey and Emily’s relationship was not perfect in the slightest but they still loved each other very much and wanted their marriage to work; just when they were on the verge of fixing their relationship, wiping the slate clean, Emily dies in an accident leaving Joey remorseful and feeling “stuck” emotionally. My vision for the film was to intertwine Joey and Emily’s past with Joey’s present. I wanted to let the audience get into the head of the protagonist through way of flashbacks so they can understand Joey and Emily’s marriage but so they can also see the memories Joey constantly plays back in his mind, he is thinking about her constantly but these three memories are the ones engrained in his brain, especially on their anniversary. I wanted the present to have static shots, and the memories to be full of movement so the viewer can feel like they are with Joey while he’s reliving the memory. The flashbacks are played in slow motion because Joey wants to remember every little detail about memory and some lines of dialogue are heard because they stand out the most in his head."
